Dayton, OH

The City of Dayton was founded in 1796 by a group of settlers called "The Thompson Party". These people met some local Native Americans and settled in an area around what is now Downtown Dayton. The "Mad River Road" was built in 1797 and connected Dayton and Cincinnati, without having to navigate the Great Miami River. Dayton was incorporated two years after Ohio joined the United States in 1803.

Throughout its history Dayton has been known as a center for industry and innovation. The Wright Brothers were born in Dayton. Another great innovator born in Dayton was Charles Kettering who founded Delco, now used by General Motors for branding purposes as ACDelco.

One major industry that still exists in Dayton is aviation. Thanks to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Northrop Grumman and other major aviation companies have major presences in Dayton. A lot of their money goes towards defense spending because of the size of Wright-Patterson AFB and its influence in the Air Force as the branch's largest base.

The medical field has seen a great amount of growth around the city, and Dayton has been ranked as number three for excellence in healthcare around the United States. Many of the top employers around Dayton are healthcare-related, like Premier Health Partners and Grandview Medical Center.
