The city of Brookville was first established in the 1830's and began to grow in the 1840's as roads were developed from Dayton out towards Brookville. As more transportation moved through the town, more people moved to Brookville. Roads were first and then railroads came through during the 1840's, 50's, and 60's.

Today, there are over 5,800 residents in Brookville and it's a very fast-growing community. Over the last couple of decades Brookville has seen great population growth. One estimate says that the number of houses increased by almost 200% from 1990 to 2010. This has helped Brookville grow as one of the fastest growing small towns around Dayton.
